Nice to see MS offer a package for Home and Student. This makes it affordable (3 licenses per copy) and will tie more users to MS products.

Interesting note: Received MS Office 2010 Beta the same day as 2007 arrived. A touch more improvement.

The Omron HJ 112 Digital Pocket Pedometer is an awesome product for the price. It is as true a pedometer as we have found. It is a true step measure (not necessary to exaggerate your steps and doesn’t measure “no” steps). The aerobic feature is nice too for those who do a focused exercise program and want to count those steps and time.

There is a major rip-off going on in HDMI A/V world and it’s the cables. “Big Box” stores are making more money selling you HDMI cables than they are selling you a Blu-Ray player! In the world of digital transmission the data is either there or it isn’t. How it gets there (cable) does not affect the quality! So come on all you A/V freaks and get with the program. These cables work perfectly and in no way deteriorate my audio or video signal AND they are anywhere from $26 to$46 cheaper than the stuff you’ll find at “Big Box Audio/Video”. So don’t spend “monster” cash for digital cabling. I’ll bet you have something else you could use that money for. (Like a couple of new Blu-Ray discs?)

I’ve had this vacccum cleaner for a little over a year and I have to say it’s one of the best investments I’ve made! I had a more “modern” vaccum prior to this but after reading the reviews, I wanted to try this one out. It doesn’t have any “special” features but it is so powerful and it really sucks everything up on carpet and hard floors. I ended up buying my parents one for Christmas as well, and they’re really happy with it too. For being under $100, it is worth every penny!

Nice overseen remastering job by Jeff Lynne. With the exception of the new version of “Xanadu”(I wish it was the 1980 version with Olivia Newton John), the song list is pretty nice. This sampling of ELO hits is a great way for a new ELO fan to start an ELO collection. Nice linear notes by Jeff. Again as with all the ELO greatest hits and ELO box sets there are favorite songs missing. Best bet by all the Epic /Legacy remastered ELO cd releases, but if you just want one disc full of hits this disc is a nice edition to have. I wish “Look At Me Now”, “Dreaming Of 4000″ and a few more ELO oddities were on this collection I know these are two odd songs that are not known as ELO greatest hits material but it would have added a little different curriculum to this latest ELO greatest hits release. I still enjoyed the listen it brought brought back alot of memories. While I listened to this ELO greatest hits collection cd, as usual I cracked an ELO smile. Recommended listening……………

I like all of the things this program does. It doest take a little while
to understand all of the possibilities. I would recommend this to
anyone.
Vivitar Series 1 High

I bought a new PS3 and needed a hdmi cable to connect it to my HDTV.
I checked out online and the prices were $40-$140.
Then I came across this product which was selling for $0.95
I thought of giving it a shot, even if I thought it did not look dependable.

But, I must say, it works great. No problems at all.
Really loved it.

This mat is great to protect the floor on which the trainer is being used; it prevents the bike and trainer from sliding around while in use. It’s heavy-duty and is the perfect size for training setup. I only gave it four stars because even though it’s pretty sturdy, it is just a bit spendy–otherwise a perfect purchase!

Colfer, E. (2001). Artemis Fowl. New York: Hyperion Paperbacks for Children.

Artemis Fowl is not only to tale of the ingenious and villainous Artemis Fowl, but also the Story of Captain Holly Short, the first female to protect the magical people by joining LEPrechaun force.

Artemis, whose mother is unwell since his father was lost in the Arctic, searches with his friend and protector, Butler, to restore the Fowl fortune. This leads Artemis into trouble with the magical world when he takes Holly hostage. From there Artemis must match wits with LEP’s best agents and one of the magical community’s sneakiest criminals.

The book allows students to question their own cultural norms, as humans are called Mud People and their (our) practices are called into question.

The story includes subtle environmental messages. It also blurs the lines between genres, as it includes both sci-fi and fantasy elements. But most of all, this is a fun series for the young action-adventure lover to become addicted to.

Plus, Artemis is a Mac user, the clever boy.

Activities to do with the book:

This is a book is a great adventure story to help to get students immersed in a story. It lends itself to role-play since students can have fun being a villainous and powerful child genius.

Since some complain that the Artemis Fowl books are hard to visualize, students could create their own illustrations to help with this or create their own adventures for some of the supporting characters.

Favorite Quotes:

“How does one describe Artemis Fowl? Various psychiatrists have tried and failed. The main problem is Artemis’s own intelligence. He babboozles every test thrown at him. He has puzzled the greatest medical minds, and sent many of them gibbering to their own hospitals” (p. 1).

“The Mud People destroyed everything they came into contact with. Of course they didn’t live in the mud anymore. Not in this country, at least. Oh no. Big fancy dwellings with room for everything–rooms for sleep
