Several months ago one of my domestic short hairs started shedding. It was spring, shedding was to be expected. She was shedding a LOT, so much that when my husband and I went to pet her gobs of hair would go flying everywhere and we would both end up with stuffy noses, even though we both have very mild allergies. Her fur was EVERYWHERE- even in gobs on the ceiling fan and the WALLS. This went on for months, and when I realized she’d been shedding this much for too long I got worried. When I pulled her hair just seemed to come out! So panicked and took her to the vet. He checked her out and told me there was nothing wrong with her- she was perfectly healthy, but just had a heavy undercoat that wasn’t coming off with my normal brushing. He pulled out one of these babies and did a once over- I was standing there panicking and asked a few times just to make SURE that she was okay.. I couldn’t believe all the fur that was coming off!! He recommended this to me, so I went home and did my research on it.
I ordered and when it came in I sat my kitties down to be brushed. Due to the reviews I was careful about how much pressure I put on the brush, and brushed like the vet did (not a normal brush). Here’s the thing (IMPORTANT TIP:) you need to brush in short bursts (one or two inches, maybe more), and go back up and start near where you ended, and repeat going down the way the fur grows. You can do this in a faster motion if you’d like, just don’t do it with too much pressure. If you just drag it all along the cat, I would imagine that may just rip the hair and just not be very good in general. I was careful about how many times I went over them, but never saw any thinning at all.
Lots of fur came off of both of them, and I finished up with a regular wire brush to smooth things out and get the extra out, then pet them lastly to get any stuff hanging around. Works like a charm! I LOVE this thing! Both of their coats are even softer and shinier than they were before (they

However, it does not have the camera, video, better screen and better sound. And all for about the same cost. I like the 3rd gen. model, but if I had known one with a camera would become available, I definitely would have waited to buy.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found this cleaner easy to use, lightweight enough to move around, and that it did a good cleaning the carpets. Despite a few problems with the tools falling out of the holders while moving the machine, I would recommend this product.

I feel like some sort of new religious convert when I find myself talking about the FURminator. I saw the adds on TV when it came out, and thought “Yeah right!”. Then I saw one in my local feed store, and on closer inspection did not thin it was considerably different to a lot of other shedding blades/rakes I’d seen for grooming (I’ve owned horses, dogs, and cats for years). However, there was a money back guarantee if not completely blown away, so I thought I’d give it a chance. It is amazing!!!! I use it on my Labrador and it takes out her undercoat so that if I use it once a week during shedding season we avoid the “cloud of hair” routine that usually occurs every time I pet her. The rest of the year I use it once a month or so and it removes whatever she is normally shedding. It DOES NOT CUT THE HAIR!!! I have heard people say they think it does, and given the amount of hair that comes off with each pull of the brush I can see why they think that is the case…. but if I use it on my dog #1- eventually I am getting less and less hair, and if it was cutting the hair I do not believe that would be the case and #2- if you look at the hair on the FURminator it is not cut, and when I check my dogs coat there is no evidence of a ragged effect that would occur at the time of grooming/or as the hair grew out if it had been cut. I have also used this on my cat with great success (she even likes it) and on my Border Terrier. The Border Terrier should be hand stripped, so this helps with his under coat a bit, but doe not take the place of hand stripping. It is good for between stripping sessions though. I have also lent it to a friend with a Chihuahua with a short slick coat (I was not sure it would work on a coat like that), and she was amazed by the amount of hair she got off of her dog. I am amazed at how well this brush works. The amount of hair that came off of my cats was unreal. I only brush them every few days and the difference in how much they shed is just amazing. I highly recommend it!

Our carpet had been neglected for a while. We always rented a Rug Doctor and it was becoming quite a hassle to pick it up and return it. Lifting it in and out of our car’s trunk was another hassle we wanted to do away with. I purchased the Hoover F5914-900 after reading the reviews. It was easy to assemble.
This steam cleaner is much smaller & lighter than the Rug Doctor we are used to using, making it easier to push & maneuver around. However, because of the smaller size, we emptied and filled the upper and lower tanks, eight times while cleaning our 12′x 26′ carpet. The clean solution tank holds one gallon of water (one reason for the light weight). The instructions say to fill it with hot tap water and the detergent which is easily measured using the tank’s cap as a measuring cup. The unit itself cleans about a 11-11.5″ wide area and doesn’t clean close enough to the woodwork to suit me. So, I used the stair/upholstery nozzle to clean next to the woodwork and other tight areas. That tool did a good job for us. Hooking it up was a bit confusing and my hubby was worried that he was going to break the clear, recovery tank front panel. It pulls down a little hard, just don’t force it. There is also a powered hand tool that has rotating brushes included with this steam vac. I didn’t feel the need to try out this unit’s Clean Surge feature because I had already pre-treated the bad areas.
Vacuum your carpeting before steam cleaning otherwise you’ll end up clogging the steam cleaner. I pretreated the heavy traffic areas with my Bissell 0801 Oxy GEN2 Multi Purpose Oxygen Boost -32oz which I applied liberally to the carpet and waited 10 minutes before steam cleaning. For stubborn areas, I pre-treat, steam clean, let dry, pre-treat again, steam clean, let dry, then rinse. For normal cleaning, I pre-treat, steam clean, let dry, then rinse.
